Aztec health beliefs
The Aztecs knowledge of medicine and health was purely education based. Unlike other ancient civilizations, the Aztecs did not believe that illness was punishment from the gods. Rather they saw it as an act of war from an opposing side. The Aztecs had employed several doctors and even surgeons, to treat any illnesses or battle wounds. They were recounted as to have a wide medicinal knowledge of herb and plant remedies which were available on the common market. However as they did not believe illness as an inflicted punishment, they did believe the gods could heal them as in many different prayers and magical remedies implored by the doctors.
